Looking to the Future of Flying with Sesar

SesarThe main holiday season is approaching and millions of us are starting to get excited about lying on a beach or by a pool and soaking up the rays. What none of us realise id that the minute we step onto our plane, we are adding to the problem of the already overcrowded skies.

Now a lot of people will think this is nonsense, but the fact is that growth in the European area of the aviation sector is currently 5% a year, and as it continues to grow it is estimated that in only 20 years there will be 16.9m flights a year. This is already a problem so heaven help us in 20 years. Already, 26,000 planes pass each other in flight, when in all honesty you should never see another plane while you are up there.

Thankfully, those in the know have seen the impending chaos and have joined forced to sort it out sooner rather than later. The European Commission, Euro Central and the entire aviation sector have formed a joint initiative known as SESAR. They are looking to drag the outdated air traffic management systems into the 21st Century and make sure that we can fly for many years to come.

Their main aims include tripling the amount of airspace that is currently available to airlines, reducing the air traffic management costs by a whopping 50% and also reducing the environmental impact by at least 10%. They have 110 over partners and 2000 experts to bring in the new technology and flight procedures which will ensure the future of flying in Europe.
