Ibiza Airport

Ibiza Airport in Ibiza is one of three international airports in the Balearic Islands (along with Palma de Mallorca and Menorca). It is located 7km southwest of the island’s capital, Ibiza Town (Eivissa).

The following are direct buses from the airport to locations on the island:
Line 10: from the central bus station and the port of Ibiza town, in the summer season every half hour, every hour otherwise.
Line 24: Santa Eularia and Es Canar, in the summer season, 7 times daily.
Line 9: Daily from Sant Josep and Sant Antoni.

The airport in Ibiza was been created at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, and at that time was under the military designation of the Aerodromo It Codola [run 2]. Codola is the land on which the Aerodromo was built.

After the war it used Codola to rescue pilots from the Spanish SAR squadron and the Coast Guard. On 13th August 1949 it was the first Ibiza Airportcivil aviation airport for release and changed its name to Aeroport d’Eivissa. Due to unresolved ownership of the facilities and operations, for several years it had to be closed again.

It was not until 1954, that the expropriation process was completed and further expansion began. On 1st April 1958 it launched the first scheduled flights by Spanish airline Aviaco, to Ibiza, Palma and Ibiza-Barcelona. In July Iberia opened its service to Valencia and Barcelona. In the summer of 1960 there followed the construction of a new passenger terminal and control tower. The adjoining land was expropriated in 1961 and expanded the airport.

In 1962, the first extension of the runway began with the runway lights being completed in 1964. On 15th July 1966 the international aviation was opened named Aeroport d’Eivissa Sant Josep.
